2013 Marine Fellows

  • Rohan Arthur, Ph.D.

    Rohan Arthur is a senior scientist at the Nature Conservation Foundation in Karnataka, India, head of its oceans and coasts division, and one of the founding trustees. He will use his fellowship to better understand the contribution of fish to coral reef resilience.

  • Gillian Braulik, Ph.D.

    Gill Braulik is an independent researcher affiliated with the University of St. Andrews and based in East Africa. Her project will develop a marine-mammal rapid-assessment protocol to target conservation activities in Tanzanian coastal waters.

  • Yimnang Golbuu, Ph.D.

    Yimnang Golbuu is the chief researcher at the Palau International Coral Reef Center. His Pew Fellows project will explore the conditions of Palau’s marine protected areas in an effort to create an optimal design for Palau's Protected Areas Network.

  • Meity Mongdong

    Meity Mongdong is the Bird’s Head Seascape capacity building manager at Conservation International Indonesia. This area is the global epicenter of marine biodiversity in northwest Papua Barat, Indonesia. In her Pew Fellows project, she will work to gain a comprehensive understanding of the largely unwritten laws governing marine resource use in West Papua, Indonesia.

  • Anne K. Salomon, Ph.D.

    Anne K. Salomon is a marine ecologist and assistant professor of applied ecology at Simon Fraser University. Her Pew Fellows project will research prehistoric kelp forest ecosystems, synthesize data on sea otter-induced impacts, and document the evolution of social and cultural values associated with this predator’s recovery.
