The Pew Environment Group welcomes the announcement this week by Rep. Norm Dicks (D-WA) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) that they will work to create new wilderness areas, safeguard National Preserves, and designate wild and scenic rivers on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula.
The lawmakers’ decision comes after dozens of meetings with stakeholders and multiple listening sessions demonstrated broad support from local communities. Pew is a member of the Wild Olympics Campaign, a coalition of conservation and recreation groups that has worked for the last two years to raise awareness of and build community support for protecting the water, forests, and fish on the Peninsula.
