Es Hora De Saber Lo Que Se Esconde En Las Redes

Pew Environment Group insta a los miembros de la Comisión Internacional para la Conservación del Atún Atlántico (CICAA/ICCAT) a tomar las siguientes medidas fundamentales en la 22ª Reunión ordinaria de la comisión:

1. Fortalecer el control en contra de la pesca ilegal, no declarada y no reglamentada (Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated, IUU)

1.1 Implementar y financiar un sistema de documentos de captura de atún rojo en soporte electrónico (electronic bluefin catch documentation, eBCD).
1.2 Agregar los buques conocidos por haberse involucrado en actividades ilegales con redes de enmalle de deriva en la lista de buques IUU de la ICCAT.
1.3 Mejorar las medidas del Estado rector del puerto (port State measures, PSM).
1.4 Requerir identificadores únicos de buques (unique vessel identifiers, UVI) para todos los buques que operen en la zona de la ICCAT.

2. Acabar con la sobrepesca y apoyar los métodos de pesca sostenibles

2.1 Acabar de inmediato con la sobrepesca del rabil y del atún blanco del Atlántico Sur.
2.2 Exigir modificaciones del arte, como el uso obligatorio de líneas principales de monofilamento de nylon y prohibir las líneas de acero o alambre en las pesquerías de la ICCAT.
2.3 Ordenar el uso de los dispositivos de concentración de peces (fish aggregating devices, FAD) en el Golfo de Guinea.
2.4 Investigar las zonas de desove y de cría.

3. Proteger especies de tiburones amenazadas

3.1 Prohibir la retención del marrajo sardinero y del tiburón jaquetón y establecer límites de captura preventivos y concretos para el marrajo dientuso.
3.2 Prohibir la extracción de aletas de tiburones en el mar.

4. Fortalecer la Comisión

4.1 Mejorar los procedimientos de votación.
4.2 Fortalecer el tratado.
4.3 Seguir adelante con los compromisos de Kobe III.
