Almost half a million Australians say they want more protection for the Coral Sea - and those behind the campaign say its one of Australia's most highly supported environment issues.

A 3-month public comment period however saw the government receive more than four hundred and eighty thousand submissions on the draft plan, with 99 point 9 per cent calling for a higher level of protection than proposed.
