Global Ocean Legacy Coral Sea director Imogen Zethoven is interviewed by Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s News 24 about the Australian government’s November 2012 proclamation to create the Australian Coral Sea Marine National Park, the second largest fully protected marine reserve in the world and the largest in the domestic waters of any country in the world.

Spanning 502,238 square kilometers (193,915 square miles) - an area equal to the size of Spain - these waters are home to one of the world’s last remaining intact tropical ocean ecosystems and spectacular marine life such as sharks, whales, tuna and billfish. The Coral Sea has been called the “jewel in the crown” by Australia’s Environment Minister.
