Pew is working to advance the reform of industrial farm animal agriculture in the United States. Our goal is to reduce the impacts of manure pollution on rivers, streams, and watersheds across the country by requiring the use of more environmentally friendly waste handling and treatment systems at the state and federal levels. We believe large meat processing companies bear a major share of the responsibility for waste management, and we will encourage them to accept this responsibility and improve their practices. Working with allies in family farm organizations across the country, we seek to reform outdated regulations governing unfair and anti-competitive practices between the meat processing industry and the farmers and ranchers who raise livestock and poultry.
