Our Goals
Little is known about the Kermadecs. In an effort to deepen knowledge about this remarkable region, Global Ocean Legacy with the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa hosted an international science symposium in Wellington, New Zealand, in August 2010.
The symposium, “DEEP—Talks and Thoughts Celebrating Diversity in New Zealand’s Untouched Kermadecs,” brought together representatives from science, government, academia, theMāori community, industry and conservation to share their knowledge of the geological and biological diversity of the Kermadec region.
The Kermadecs remain one of the few relatively unspoiled places on Earth. We have an opportunity to further protect this amazing region and ensure that the unique natural features and biodiversity found there are conserved now and for future generations.
